Soom T is the Glaswegian renegade artist known for her eclectic vocal collaborations on over 55 record releases since 1999 with the likes of The Orb, T.Raumschmiere, King Creosote, Miss Kittin, Dj Yoda, Mungos Hifi, Bus, Asian Dub Foundation and many other definitive artists. Having spent the last 12 years releasing, Soom T’s character has become renowned within the industry as a comedic if somewhat eccentric one with exceptional virtuosic ability, inimitable, distinctive sound & strong politico-spiritual viewpoint permeating powerful poetry which gradually gained the Indian-Scot a burgeoning cult following with fans eager to commute from various countries to witness her rare public appearances.
Having been influenced Hindi Ghazals from the 50’s, Punjabi Bhangra, the hiphop of the 80’s and electro, rave and punk of the early 90’s her influences range from Rage Against the machine, Pink Floyd and Queen to Christie Moore, Tasmin Archer and Commodore 64 game soundtracks. Soom T has been deployed to vocalize and deputise for many class acts touring extensively throughout Europe including festivals such as Roskilde and Sonar whilst winning many awards including BBC Fame Academy Bursary Award (2005), PRS Fopp Award (2005), PRS Atom Award (2006), SAC Funded in 2008/10 whilst her vast catalog continues to appear on radio playlists worldwide. Her current projects include recordings with Scottish Reggae soundsystem masters, Mungos Hifi for consistent vinyl releases with her homegrown crew & label Scotch Bonnett with whom Soom T currently works on a Reggae album. Her inclusion as a member of Scottish Supergroup ‘Burns Unit’ saw her appear on Jools Holland with war song ‘Send Them Kids To War in 2011.’
On recording several tracks with Disrupt and fellow label mates Maffi in 2008 including 7” Flying High and 12” Dirty Money, Soom T delved into the world of Digital Laptop Reggae (DLR). In 2011 The much anticipated double vinyl 12” debut ‘Soom T and Disrupt’ album was released on Jahtari. With a bundle of riotous, crowd churning sets having left a firm imprint on European audiences, with more recent tours of Scandinavia, Japan, China, USA, Canada and Mexico in 2010 with tours in 2011 consisting of solo performances and shows with Mungos Hifi and various others in India, Brasil, Mexico, USA, Canada, Europe and other worldly locations, the spread of the Soom T phenomenon shows no signs of abating.
Her experience has culminated in her setting up the label Renegade Masters dedicated to seeking and nurturing artists internationally who create powerfully positive music with a strong emotive response in listeners. Her solo live projects consist of laptop medleys, generically wide selections from her vast catalogue, FX gadgetry, live dub-plates and a microphone with a uniquely interactive crowd participation element that urge fans to keep all ears to the ground for the bass rumble that will shake you to the core.
